From 1 January 2025 through to the end of December 2025, the Government are introducing a new single fare cap at £3 to ensure millions of people can access affordable bus fares and better opportunities all over the country. This will particularly benefit passengers in rural communities and towns and will save passengers up to 80% on some routes.
The cap means no single bus fare on routes included in the scheme will exceed £3 and routes where fares are less than £3 will only be allowed to increase by inflation in the normal way so that some fares will remain below £3. The fare cap will help millions access better opportunities and promote greater use by passengers.
This scheme forms part of the Government's Help for Households campaign, as the new cap can deliver real savings for those most affected by the rising cost of living.
Passengers are encouraged to Get Around for £3 by bus from 1st January 2025 to 31st December 2025. Whether you’re heading to work or popping into town, a single bus journey will cost no more than £3.
Ready to travel? You can buy your £3 single ticket on board with cash or your contactless card or mobile device. Day, 10 Trip, Week and 4 Weekly tickets will still be available to purchase on the bus or via the D&G App (10 Trip and 4 Weekly are only available as a mobile ticket), but it may be cheaper to purchase a £3 single each time you travel, for the duration of the scheme.
